Acupuncture in north vancouver for TMJ

Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Pain

Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMD) occurs when the joint connecting your lower jaw to your skull experiences pain and fatigue. Known as the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), its pain can spread to the fascia, which is the connective tissue covering the muscles. You could even experience the pain spreading to your neck and shoulders.

Causes of TMD

  • Mislaid orthodontics
  • Trauma to the jaw
  • Grinding or clenching of the teeth
  • Chewing too vigorously
  • Emotional stress
  • Improper jaw alignment

Numerous studies have been done on the efficacy of acupuncture in treating TMJ pain and also  in my own clinical experience, acupuncture is a very effective remedy for this condition.  The number of treatments required will depend on how severe the disorder, how long the pain has persisted and also the age/health of the patient.
